In order to earn money in WFG, you are required to be licensed. You have 9 months after signing your membership agreement (MA) to complete the study course, write the provincial exams, and obtain your license. Some get the process done within a month, many within two or three months, and a few take a bit longer. We suggest you get this done and out of the way as fast as possible, don't procrastinate.
It is important that you study and write your exams; as well as stay active in the field at the same time. Staying active in the field while your are working on your licensing will allow you to continue building your team, making contacts and building a clientele base of those to help once you are licensed.
To obtain your license for Ontario, you are required to complete the Harmonized Life License Qualification Program (HLLQP). This applies to all provinces and territories, except Quebec. Quebec is under a civil law system, while the rest of Canada is under a case law system and as a result, Quebec’s course is different.
Before you begin the process of licensing register with the Canadian Insurance Participant registry (CIPR). This registration is needed when you register for the provincial exams.

Optional Studying Tools:
As mentioned above, there are two other optional learning tools to help you study for exams. Apex Learning and Bootcamp.
Apex Learning was developed by a WFG leader by the name of Carl Meldrum. The cost is $250 (“price only matters in the absence of value”). Apex gives you access to 4 World Class tutors live on Zoom . You can choose the tutor sessions for Ethics, A&S, Life Insurance, and Seg Funds that best suits your schedule. You are given tips on how to write the exams. They have also taken the entire HLLQP Textbook (600+ pages) and have broken it down to around 100 pages. Contact your SMD to register!
Monthly Bootcamp is presented by Eric Harding. Cost is $20. This includes
6 hours on zoom, once per month, on the weekend. We have heard excellent testimonials about it.

NOTE:
There is a 12 question Ethics exam that must be completed to open up the HLLQP bundle and allow you to move forward with studying.
There are 4 separate modules you need to study: Life Insurance; Accident & Sickness; Segregated Funds & Annuities; and Ethics. It is recommended that you attack these modules one or two at a time. First study the module material, then write the certification exam.
Refer to the webpage called "Study Tips and Tricks" to get some pointers and information on the studying process.
Each of the four modules requires the student to complete the certification exam for that module. Once all four certification exams have been successfully completed you move on and book/write the four provincial exams. The certification exams are a prerequisite for the Provincial Exams.
The certification exams are accessed through your Oliver's Learning bundle you purchased.
Certification exams are "monitored". You'll need a computer with a camera and microphone. Your computer will require the Oliver's Digital Lock installed and activated to ensure you only get access to the text book and exam itself during your exam. The Digital Lock is software that will lock your computer from opening any other web browsers, programs, etc while writing the exams. Oliver’s Learning will prompt you to download and install this program when you attempt your first Certification Exam.
You need to write these exams in a quiet environment free from interruptions, and free from clutter. Your desk should have nothing more than just your computer on it. Many choose to come to the office to write these exams in our Exam room. Consult your field trainer, MD, or SMD to get access to the office exam room.
Exams are "Multiple Choice". A passing grade of 60% on each certification is required, except the Ethics Certification exam which requires 70%. There are many helpful items on Oliver’s Learning which assist to test your knowledge (flashcards, chapter quizzes, mock exams, and videos) to prepare you to write these exams.
Important: Students have three certification attempts for each module with their Oliver's course enrollment. You can purchase one additional attempt per module for $20. If you do not pass on the 4th attempt, the entire program expires, and you must pay the $199 (as of March 1st, 2022) to reregister for HLLQP and you must redo ALL module certifications again!!
Refer to the webpage called "Study Tips and Tricks" to learn more about how to approach and write these exams.
Once you complete and pass all your certification exams, you will book your Provincial Exams. Shortly after completing your four "certs" you should receive an email from Oliver’s Learning advising you that you can now register for your provincial exams.
The email will list the available testing centers or online forms. Select the appropriate link and it should bring you to a new window to schedule your exam. You will need your CIPR number that you obtained at the beginning of this process, and you must pay the applicable examination fees. You may be able to schedule the exams in the order you prefer, so ensure to read carefully.
Once again, ensure to keep the receipt as this can be claimed as business expense.
Once registered for the exam, you should receive an email confirming your registration plus details of any requirements or important information. You may also receive another email a few days ahead of the scheduled date for the exam, confirming the exam and once again detailing any important information regarding the exam.
The Provincial Exams are similar to the certification exams.
These exams are "Proctored". Test proctoring is testing overseen by an authorized, neutral, proctor, who ensures the identity of the test taker and the integrity of the test taking environment. You will be asked to present some valid ID, will be asked to use your laptop camera to show the room you are writing the exam in, and will be asked to use a mirror to show the examiner your keyboard and computer screen. Currently the proctoring is done by Durham College.
The exams are done online, similar to the Cert exams you have already done. You need to write these exams in a quiet environment free from interruptions, and free from clutter. Your desk should have nothing more than just your computer on it. Many choose to come to the office to write these exams in our Exam room.
In some situations, you may have to travel to a "proctoring location" such as Sault College to write these exams.
Exam Results: Your provincial exam results will be emailed to you within 7 business days of writing each exam, usually less. If results are not received within 7 days, call the number provided in your email.
Once you have confirmation of passing the four provincial exams, you should advise your upline leader and SMD. You will then receive an email from either your SMD or upline leader detailing instructions for the next steps. They will assist you with the application.
Upon successful completion of the Provincial Exams you need to apply for your license through the Financial Services Regulatory Authority of Ontario (FSRA), an agency of the Government of Ontario. The application process is online, and there is a fee for the application/license - currently $170.
Part of the licensing application is to get a "Criminal Records Check" done. This is now done through Triton Canada.
Another requirement during the application process is that you will need to verify your suitability to have a licence by confirming:
- You are familiar with the laws of Ontario relating to the licensing of life insurance agents.
-You will hold yourself out publicly and carry out business in good faith as a life insurance agent in the name in which you are licensed.
-You are not engaged in any other business or occupation that would jeopardize your integrity, independence or competence as an insurance agent.
-You are of good character and reputation.
-You have provided all information about bankruptcies, lawsuits, criminal records, decisions from other regulators or licensing bodies and other employment information.
-You successfully completed the LLQP exam (you will need to provide the score from your confirmation email).
-You are a suitable person to receive a licence and meet all licensing requirements.
Once your application is submitted, there is usually a delay/wait time until your license is granted. To see the current wait time you can visit https://www.fsrao.ca/licensing/check-application-processing-times
You may not get notification that your license has processed and may have to check to see if your license has "Landed" by checking the public registry at https://alias2a.fsco.gov.on.ca/agents.aspx
Details about the licensing process and your requirements afterwards you can visit https://www.fsrao.ca/licensing/life-and-accident-sickness-agent/apply-new-life-and-accident-sickness-insurance-licence
Your license is valid for two years from the date of issue, then needs to be renewed every two years after that. Note: To qualify for renewal, you must complete 30 Continuing Education credits over the next two years.
More details about the life license process and renewal requirements are at https://www.fsrao.ca/licensing/life-and-accident-sickness-agent/apply-new-life-and-accident-sickness-insurance-licence
When your license has been granted - "landed" - it needs to be sponsored or "placed". There are two additional shorter exams that need to be done here: Ethics and Anti Money Laundering. These exams are shorter than the certs or provincial exams. Study material and the exams are included in the Oliver's bundle you have purchased.
Your License is sponsored with Ivari - one of our product partners. You will also need to notify WFG of your new license information.
Your upline/trainer/SMD can help you with this process.
CONGRATULATIONS! You're now at the Training Associate level (or higher if you've already done enough field training). You've got the license process out of the way and you are now able to go out and help some families, and make some Moola!
